Open
ended vasectomy
In
this form of vasectomy the testicular end of vas deferens is left open
with the intent that sperms would continue to flow out from the testis.
The abdominal end of vas is clipped or tied and cauterized as in a standard
vasectomy. An additional layer of tissue is interposed between the two
cut ends of the vas.
The
reported advantages of open ended vasectomy include lower incidence
of chronic pain (post-vasectomy pain syndrome) and better chances of
successful reversal if needed. The disadvantage open ended vasectomy
however is a higher chance of re-canalization compared to a standard
vasectomy.
I
offer open ended vasectomy to those who request this procedure with
the above explanation.
